Are they indeed? Well that’s what The Express reckons anyway.
Man Utd’s sensational £67m (89.1m Euros) deadline day DOUBLE swoop
MANCHESTER UNITED are plotting a sensational deadline day double swoop for ex-Chelsea star Kevin De Bruyne, now of Wolfsburg, and Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
Obvious questions are immediately raised here. Why wait until the last day? Do they have any hope of getting these deals over the line? Are they the right choices?
The answer is that these deals probably won’t happen today. But Hummels would obviously be like an early birthday and Christmas present rolled into one for most Manchester United fans. He brings composure and solidity plus the great distribution which has been lacking from the defence this season.
As for De Bruyne, he’s an industrious and precise player who has done well in his career so far. But Manchester United’s next choice of winger, to ultimately play on the opposite flank to Di Maria, is crucial. They have to get this one right. And we aren’t sure if De Bruyne is the explosive player that Manchester United need.
He’s good, but not that good. If we held the Manchester United purse strings we would be waiting for a player of great acceleration and/or guile – someone like Memphis Depay or Marco Reus would be the perfect choice for us. In the summer we thought Manchester United should go for Alexis Sanchez and it’s that sort of pace which is required now.
Let’s see De Bruyne in action.
