Manchester United have yet again been linked with a bid for German international Mats Hummels in the latest news cycle.
The Metro now reports:
Manchester United are set to offer Borussia Dortmund £37.3million to finally sign their captain Mats Hummels.
We can’t work out if Manchester United are terrible at signing players or if it’s just impossible to keep news of their interest in any star out of the papers.
Because, for whatever reason, Manchester United seem to drag their transfers out like no other club. Kevin Strootman, for example, has been on the verge of joining the club since about 1975, but that one still hasn’t materialised.
And Mats Hummels is another who seems to be constantly linked but still hasn’t mentioned a move to Manchester United in his public statements.
Both would arguably improve the team – especially Hummels who is not only fit as a fiddle, but exactly the sort of defender that the team needs. But, they have both been linked for so long that their potential signings now feel a little like Christmas presents that you were told about a year ago – still good but with no surprise element.
Anyway, after all the hullabaloo, perhaps Manchester United will finally get Hummels, who is widely regarded as their top target. He wold undoubtedly give the team a big boost and it would be marvellous if United could get him in January. But the hopes of that happening have to be pretty slim.

Probably LVG feels that Man Utd managerial job is a child’s play. We need central defenders, then he’s masquerading around England trying to form a Holland National Team. We don’t need Strootman. We have defensive midfielders in that position. In person of Carrick. Our priorities now should be our central defense. I’m tired and frustrated of our transfer plans.
