Manchester United: Falcao debate rages

Imponderables. That is what makes football so brilliant and fascinating isn’t it? And it’s so hard to predict what’s going to happen that it provides a welcome escape from the day to day grind.

Another imponderable, Radamel Falcao, is the latest hot topic of debate amongst Manchester United fans and beyond. The question is, is he worth the cash that Manchester United have already spent, and will spend on him if he makes his move permanent in the summer? The Daily Mail columnist Martin Samuel has been having the debate with fans on the website of the news outlet. And there are polemic opinions on this.

While some think he’s still a demi-god, about to explode, others feel that he’s doing a Fernando Torres in England, with his career disintegrating in front of our eyes.

Here’s what we think.

Time is against him

The first 3 months of his season were blighted by niggling injuries. Because of this he hasn’t managed to gain any momentum. His touch is still a bit awry and he certainly isn’t yet at his best. He has about 3 months to prove himself. And what a three months he needs to have.

RvP

Both great players but they both seem to prefer to play up top on their own. RvP didn’t really gel with Rooney and he hasn’t gelled with Falcao. We feel that LvG may soon have to pick one or the other instead of both (when fit).

Can he do it?

Absolutely. 100%. Yes. Against QPR he was unlucky not to score and his touch let him down a couple of times. But he is renowned for having a great touch and that will return in time. What we did see was a player who was omnipresent on the pitch – he was into everything and worked his socks off for the team and to make things happen for himself.

Falcao is so close now. If he can get another 6 games in a row for Manchester United without injury we think that he is quickly going to dispel any doubts as to whether he is worth the cash.

Manchester United fans: will Falcao make the grade at the club this season?
