After a crazy summer spend there is a common assumption that Manchester United are only interested in signing high profile stars in order to return to the top.
But Manchester United always had nice balance under Sir Alex Fergie of all that is good and he managed to bring in the odd Evra and Vidic for bargain prices to complement the higher profile purchases.
Hopefully Louis van Gaal will show the same capacity for a bargain over the next few years and reports suggest that he is keen on just such a player for the defence.
ESPN reports:
Manchester United are weighing a move for Dynamo Kiev’s highly rated Austrian defender Aleksandar Dragovic, sources have told ESPN FC.
Louis van Gaal has been linked with a host of names, including Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar, but sources said Dragovic figures highly on his wanted list.
Just 23 years of age, but he already has good experience, having played for Austria Wien, FC Basel and Dynamo Kiev, where he currently plies his trade.
He also has a highly impressive 35 caps and one goal for the Austrian international side – albeit in a period of relative paucity for the national team.
At 6ft 1in he looks to have the height and build to do well in The Premier League and could turn out to be a bargain for Manchester United at a time when the idea of austerity seems to have gone out of the window.
Let’s have a look at him in action. Manchester United fans: do you like the look of this lad or do United need to sign an accomplished, world class leader for the defence right now?
