After a hitherto quiet transfer window for Chelsea the rumour mills exploded into life yesterday with reports that Jose Mourinho was keen to bring Colombia international Juan Cuadrado to the club this month from Fiorentina.
That deal still looks to be simmering away with the broadsheets also seeing fit to publish the story.
But latest reports suggest that the Italian club are digging their heels in with regards to the transfer fee and Chelsea might look to Douglas Costa of Shaktar Donetsk instead.
The Daily Mail reports:
Chelsea have launched a £16million bid to sign Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The move comes as Fiorentina dig in their heels over their valuation of Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado.
Whether or not Chelsea would be interested in bringing both players to the club in January remains to be seen. But with Mohamad Salah and Andre Schurrle looking as if they could well leave Stamford Bridge this month we wouldn’t put it beyond Jose Mourinho to bring both of these players in.
They can both play in that winger role in the 3 behind the striker as each has great athleticism. But Costa can also play up top or as a second striker through the middle and has already enjoyed a fruitful partnership in midfield with Chelsea star Willian during their time together at Shakhtar.
Let’s see the mercurial Costa in action. Chelsea fans: is this a player who can improve the first team or just the squad?
