Jose Mourinho seems to be quite enjoying the period of austerity forced upon the club by the new FIFA FairPlay leglislation. Selling David Luiz for such an astronomical fee was a masterstroke. And, while many at Chelsea loved Juan Mata, £37m seems like an awfully high fee when you consider his form at Manchester United since he arrived.
Andre Schurrle could be the next player sold for big money in order to swell the coffers for further signings. And one move has been confirmed today – albeit a loan which we expect to become permanent before too long. Indeed Anderlecht have an option to buy at the end of the deal Eurosport confirms:
Chelsea’s out-of-favour German forward Marko Marin has joined Belgian side Anderlecht on loan for the rest of the season.
The 25 year old has been on loan to 3 clubs – Sevilla, Fiorentina and Anderlecht – since his move to Chelsea in 2012. And we have to say that he has never failed to underwhelm us. He is capable of the odd impressive slalom through the defence but he doesn’t look robust enough for The Premier League and he has always, arguably, lacked the consistency required of the very top level.
Chelsea brought Marin in for a fee of around £8m and if they can ultimately redeem half of that they will probably be happy. Marin has played for Germany 18 times but the last of those caps came way back in 2010 as the lad has gone off the boil big time.
