Manchester United prepared to bring star with 22 trophies back to Old Trafford according to reports

Evans - Time for a change

Interesting option

If tabloid reports are to be believed then Manchester United are probably tracking a centre back this winter. It does make sense as the defence has been the weak spot for most of the season.

So many names have been thrown about but Mats Hummels is probably the one most oft-used. Others circulating in the latest reports include Manchester United’s ex-star Gerard Pique.

And The Express comes to the party with:

Louis van Gaal is eyeing up an audacious £15m swoop to bring Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old, who has won 22 major trophies at club level for Manchester United and Barcelona, hasn’t been having such a great time of it at the club of late and has been left on the bench more often than not.

But he is an accomplished and technically excellent centre back who must not be disregarded as a potential transfer target. We liked him the first time he was at Manchester United and thought it was a mistake to let him go.

If there was one area of concern in his game it was his arguable lack of pace. That would still hold true of course. But he does have that nous and game intelligence to read most situations before they become serious.

Pique is unlucky not to be in Barcelona side and would improve the Manchester United defence without doubt. The question is whether he is the real top-level signing that Louis van Gaal would like to deal with exclusively from this point onwards.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: Would you welcome back Pique with open arms or is he not good enough to really overhaul that shaky defence?
