For us there are three squads in Europe which would currently be hard to improve – those of Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid and Chelsea. We expect all three to be challenging for The Champions League in the semis and the winner to come from this trio.
As for Chelsea, they just look so balanced right now. Last season they lacked strikers but bought three in the summer and look frightening.
But when they do invest this summer it’s likely to be in player to replace the totemic Didier Drogba. We would expect him to still be scoring goals for the club at 40, such is his desire and love for Chelsea.
But a striker and a centre back are the most obvious additions. And, in terms of forwards, Mauro Icardi’s name has been linked with Chelsea more than most. The brilliant Argentine looks like great fit for the club with his ruthless finishing and all round edge. The Daily Star reckons that Chelsea are in pole position to sign him.
Chelsea FAVOURITES to land £32m-rated Liverpool target Mauro Icardi
INTER MILAN are prepared to sell Mauro Icardi in the summer if they fail to secure Champions League football.
At 21 he’s already made his debut for the Argentina national side and has an excellent strike rate at club level, for one so young, of 34 in 80 club games. And this is in the heat of Serie A with Inter and Sampdoria – not some Mickey Mouse league.
It’s hard to imagine Icardi not making the grade long term and it’s also hard to envisage Jose not being interested in the lad.
Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: would you like to see him at the club?
