Rolls Royce star wants a move in January Chelsea want him – report

Superb

You get the sense that it’s only the more desperate clubs that do big transfer business in January – unless a top transfer target becomes available of course.

And while Chelsea certainly couldn’t be described as desperate – sitting pretty as they do at home and in Europe – they would surely by interested in a player of Raphael Varane’s quality.

Latest reports suggest that the player wants to engineer a move in this window as his chances of first team action have been limited by Pepe and Ramos at Real Madrid.

And we think that he would be a supreme addition to the squad – a player who could fill the boots of John Terry and become a legend at Chelsea over the next 10 years. Let’s remember that he is only 21 right now – but already good enough to be a starter at Real Madrid as far as we are concerned.

And The Express reckons:

Jose Mourinho eyes £35m Real Madrid RAID for Raphael Varane and Jese Rodriguez

Varane – also a target at Manchester United – is hoping to leave the European champions before the window closes due to lack of first-team football, with Real valuing his services at £20m.

Rodriguez is also a lovely player but will obviously struggle to get into the side with the midfielders and forwards that Real Madrid possess.

But Varane, who Jose Mourinho signed for Madrid in 2011, is the real gem – a Rolls Royce defender who reminds us of Rio Ferdinand in his pomp. He’s a player who is remarkably fast and amazing on the ball. We love him because he makes defending into an art form

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Chelsea fans: do you need him right now?
