It seems that Radamel Falcao’s agent isn’t particularly happy about the lack of playing for his superstar client since he joined Manchester United in the summer. Jorge Mendes is quoted as saying:
“It is very difficult for Manchester United fans,”
“They have an absolutely brilliant player, one of the very best in the world, who would without any doubt play 90 minutes of the match, every time, with any other club.
“What we do know is that he will play in one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not.”
We have to say that he has a point. Falcao has been a revelation throughout his career. And this isn’t player who has only done the business in one country. He’s made the net bulge with remarkable regularity in Colombia, Argentina, France, Spain and Portugal. He’s a world superstar who would indeed get into most, if not all, of Europe’s top teams.
But now for Manchester United’s defence. Falcao hasn’t been that player for Manchester United yet. Due to niggling injuries he has been out of sorts and hasn’t got any momentum into his season. Furthermore, Manchester United clearly had/have every intention of using him, considering that he is pretty much their top earner.
But the omission from the squad against Southampton was a strange one and it’s understandable that Falcao wasn’t happy about it. He came to Manchester United to be an integral cog in the machine and not to be a peripheral squad member.
We believe the real problem is that RvP and he both like to play up top on their own. RvP hasn’t really gelled in any partnership since he joined Manchester United and that may always be the case.
If RvP is injured for a couple of weeks it could be the making of Falcao at Manchester United. But, it seems equally likely at this point that his United career could fizzle out before it gets started.
Still, there is half a season for him to turn it around.
