Wow. Somehow. The injury list has disappeared just like that. Apart from Ashley Young the entire Manchester United squad has been confirmed as fit by Louis van Gaal.
Of course, some of those recently returned will have to be eased back in. We refer, in particular, to Daley Blind who has been out for a couple of months and we’d be amazed if he started against Southampton at the weekend (Kick Off Sunday 16:00 local time).
The other Manchester United player who has been out for some time is Marouane Fellaini. He can count himself unlucky to get crocked again after finally asserting himself in the team – albeit with lots of other injuries in the squad at the time. He too can surely only expect a place on the bench.
But the returns of Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Rafael and Luke Shaw give the Manchester United manager the chance, at last, to work out what his best team is.
The central defence has been shaky and, if Marcos Rojo is match fit, we would like to see him given a start alongside Phil Jones who has been the other best performer at centre back this season.
Luke Shaw is the best left-back at the club and he will be desperate for a run of games after bad luck with injuries all season.
Antonio may well get the nod at right back with Rafa just back from an operation to his fractured cheekbone.
We expect to see Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera start in the midfield after the latter scored a belter against Yeovil. Then it’s a question of how to shoehorn all the best forwards into the side.
