You can hardly say that Mexican striker Javier Hernandez has been a failure at Manchester United. He started his Old Trafford career like a train had his best season in 2010/11, scoring 20 in 45 appearances.
He perhaps didn’t improve in the way that many had hoped from that point onwards. But he still scored at an excellent rate and has the sort of goals to games ratio that would leave many forwards drooling.
His club career total stands at 92 in 248 games. And he has banged in a remarkable 38 in 70 games for Mexico at the age of just 26.
But some would say that he’s not a complete striker. His touch can let him down. His shooting can lack power. And he doesn’t always have the upper body strength to hold the ball up and shield it from tough opposition defenders.
We reckon that he is a very good squad player for a top club but that he will continue to struggle for game time if he wants to play for one of the really elite teams in the world game.
The Telegraph has reported that Manchester United will look to offload him in at the end of the season:
Manchester United will attempt to sell Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez at the end of the season, even if Louis van Gaal decides against a £43.2m permanent deal for the on-loan Radamel Falcao.
Some Manchester United fans will be sad to see him go and the club shouldn’t have too many problems finding a buyer. Despite his arguably foibles, he’s lightning fast and has wonderful application, hunger and enthusiasm for the game. Chicharito is a top professional who will always score goals.
Let’s see some of his better moments for Manchester United. United fans: mistake to let go?
