It’s On: Club will allow Genius to join Manchester United – report

Gundogan - a tidy player but is he what United needs?

If reports are to be believed then this has been one of the most protracted player pursuits in recent memory. We have found reports of Manchester United making a move for the lad in 2013 but we read rumours about Ilkay Gundogan even before that.

He was one of the most sought after players in Europe after he helped Dortmund to the title, against all the odds, in 2012. But injury deprived the world of this wonderful player for almost two years and only now is he back and fully fit.

And no sooner is he back on the park as Manchester United are once more linked. Reports today state that Borussia Dortmund will allow the player to join United at the risk of losing him when his contract expires in 2016. The Express reports:

Borussia Dortmund preparing to let Ilkay Gundogan join Man Utd in £16m deal

BORUSSIA DORTMUND are ready to sell Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester United rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

United manager Louis van Gaal has spoken recently about his preference for ‘multi-functional players’. Gundogan certainly fits into that category. He’s just as good sitting in front of the defence as he is creating goals and he’s a dream of a player in terms of adaptability and fluidity.

At 24 he can still become a world star if he can put his injury woes behind him. The Gundogan of 2012 would certianly improve this Manchester United team and he will hope that he can get back to that level.

Let’s see some of his better moments for Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United fans: do you think that Gundogan represents better quality than United already have at their disposal in the midfield?
