The 3 Smartest Deals That Manchester United can do in January

Hummels can take Manchester United's defence to a different level

Class trio

After another really dodgy defensive display against Stoke, Manchester United should surely set about stopping the rot in this area of the team in January. Kevin Strootman has been strongly linked with a move but Manchester United have Daley Blind to come back and are OK in the engine room right now.

But, in defence, they desperately need players who can repel attacks more convincingly and pass the ball better. Louis van Gaal can continue with three at the back if he buys two centre backs to complement Rojo or Jones – United’s only centre backs to have shown any form this season.

Mats Hummels

We know all about this lad. Strong, accomplished, commanding and a player with superb feet for a defender. Could fill the huge whole left by Rio and give Manchester United a leader at the back.

Aymeric Laporte

We would like to see Manchester United continue to invest in youth as well as buying top stars. Laporte is one of the best young defenders in the world. He’s only 20 but the French star is already a man – solid as a rock and a great long term buy.

Seamus Coleman

Manchester United’s results have improved since they have started naming a settled team. But the right back area has been problematic as injuries have hit Valencia, Young and Rafa this season. Coleman is a fit man and a great athlete. He offers composure, pace and a superb delivery. There is little not to like and he would suit Manchester United with his adventurous style. Gettable.

Let’s see Laporte in action.
