Twitter rages at shocking performance by Manchester United star against Stoke

Evans - Time for a change

Poor form

The career of Jonny Evans continues to sail close to the rocks as another dithering performance against Stoke sent the Manchester United faithful onto Twitter in force to voice their disapproval.

In truth, it wasn’t a freak performance. There is clearly something not right with the lad at the moment. Even in preseason he looked as if he was punch drunk in certain games – so slow and ponderous.

Against Liverpool he committed the cardinal sin of passing the ball blind across his 18 yard box. And, in general, he’s been way below the expected level for a genuinely talented player.

At his best Evans is quick, has lovely passing ability and is very comfortable on the ball. But his place is in further doubt after a shocking display in which he lost the ball time and again.

In truth, Chris Smalling was also poor and lucky not to concede a penalty in the second half with a clear handball.

But Evans is the senior member of the defensive trio and is expected to be the best distributor of the ball. But he just isn’t stepping up to the plate at present.

We think that he has the class to recover. But immediate improvement is necessary if he wants to stay at Manchester United long-temr.
