Thibaut Courtois
He may be something of a surprise choice considering that the Chelsea defence has been so good that this guy hasn’t had that much to do.
But getting in at number one ahead of one of the best keepers in history, at the age of 22, is an incredible feat in itself. And his performances have largely been immaculate. He’s so commanding for one so young and his handling is quite superb. Like Neuer you only expect one winner when the ball goes high into the box.
A sensational signing for Chelsea.
Cesc Fabregas
It says everything about the quality of Jose Mourinho that the three best Chelsea players of 2014 were all brought in by The Special One. Most players need time to adjust after a big move but Cesc looks as if he has been playing for Chelsea for years. He’s a proper pipe and slippers footballer who just makes the game look so easy – we love watching him play.
Nemanja Matic
If Jose could build a player from scratch perhaps Matic would be it. He’s a powerhouse of a player with a real team ethic and someone who rarely makes a mistake. While many of the plaudits go to the flair players in the side Jose knows how important this guy is.
Diego Costa
Another who has settled at Chelsea with almost impossible speed. He hasn’t been scoring quite as many goals of late but Costa guarantees Chelsea an additional 20 to 25 goals each season. So composed on the ball and an ice cool finisher.
Eden Hazard
He’s been unplayable at times and developed into a wonderful winger for Chelsea. But can he take it on again? Can he get to a similar level as Ronaldo or Messi? For someone with this potential it’s not the craziest question ever. You do feel that all down to his desire now. He has the quality to be the best in the world in the next few years.
Let’s see some Cesc Magic. Chelsea fans: best player of the year?
