Say it quietly but Manchester United could be coming out of their nightmare spell. While many had expected/hoped Manchester United to go into a terminal decline after last season, the board got the right coach at the second time of asking and there has been a vast improvement on and off the pitch.
Results are coming again and the players seem completely happy and in harmony with their manager. What’s more the injury situation seems to be clearing up by the day.
News this week that Angel di Maria has resumed full training will be a real fillip to a side that has won every game in his absence but has lacked the penetration and speed of play that he the Argentine so brilliantly adds to the attack. Manchester United are professional and workmanlike without Di Maria. With him they are genuinely scary.
Marcos Rojo could also make the team this weekend, with remaining absentees Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling expected back before the turn of the year.
If Manchester United can keep everyone fit from now they have to have a small chance of clawing their way back into the title race.
It’s going to be a very exciting second half of the campaign, as memories of David Moyes become a distant nightmare.
