Chelsea had a tough away game at Sunderland and failed to take three points after a busy week.

This has immediately left the more excitable in the media to suggest that this title race is opening up.

We do believe that Manchester City are still as good as anyone in the league on their day. But they haven’t shown anything like the consistency of Chelsea so far this season.

And goalscoring legend Michael Owen reckons, that despite the gap between first and second closing this weekend, that Chelsea are still going to walk the title.

It’s game on. City gaining points on Chelsea when they possibly didn’t expect to after this weekends fixtures could be the boost they need. I still think Chelsea will breeze it though!

Six points is a smallish gap. But Jose Mourinho is the master of holding on to leads and winning the winnable games. When you also consider that Mourinho’s side have been to United, City and Liverpool they will have even more of an advantage in the second half of the season.

After just 13 games it’s usually impossible to pick a winner in this league. Manchester City and United can both still mount challenges and Chelsea won’t have it all their own way. But they have had such a blistering start that much of the hard work has already been done.

It does put extra emphasis on the Tottenham game however. A return to winning ways and Chelsea will be in commanding position again. But more dropped points and things could start to get exciting.
