Manchester United have done some serious spending over the last year as they finally make a proper fist of catching up with the rest.
While there is unlikely to be another window quite like the last one Manchester United haven’t finished their spending yet.
We feel that they still need to buy a world-class centre back and a similarly top quality central midfielder. After that we believe that Louis will target a frighteningly quick right winger to offer the same pace and guile as the other flank, which now has the sensational Shaw/Di Maria partnership.
But it’s the former two that he needs as a matter of priority and the obvious candidates are Kevin Strootman and Mats Hummels. Both are coming into the prime of their careers and would cost a pretty penny. But they seem to offer exactly the qualities that Manchester United currently lack.
At 25 Hummels has maturity beyond his years and would bring the experience, composure and commanding presence that has been missing from United’s back line since Evra, Rio and Vidic left.
Strootman would bring more power and dynamism to a Manchester United midfield which hasn’t enjoyed a genuine leader for some time.
Manchester United aren’t too far away from challenging Chelsea, despite the current gap in the league table. With these two at their disposal the team would look more solid and even more dangerous.
So how would they fit in? Here’s our best 11 with Strootman and Hummels in the side. Manchester United fans: do you like the look of this team?
