The former sporting director of Sporting Lisbon, has spoken out to sing the praises of on-loan Portuguese star Nani after an upturn in form since he left Manchester United.
‘Nani is a great player who at this point should already been seen in a new light by Manchester United,’
He also suggested that part of the problem with Nani was psychological, after suffering persistent criticism for some wishy washy performances at Manchester United:
‘Sporting have been important behind the psychological recovery of the international.’
Manchester United definitely need another winger to balance the team with Di Maria on the other flank. But Nani is unlikely to be the solution.
We saw him play against Chelsea in The Champions League earlier this season, on the back of a rumoured surge in form.
But what we saw was a carbon copy of a player who spent so long floundering at Manchester United. He was ponderous, wasteful and only in the game in fits and starts.
In short Nani hasn’t changed. He had 7 long years to show some consistency at Old Trafford. But time and again he resembled a player who didn’t have the football brain to go with the raw speed and athleticism.
As such a discerning judge of a footballer, we just can’t see Nani being recalled by Louis van Gaal if Manchester United can get a half-decent price for him.
