There is an ongoing power battle between the biggest clubs in The Premier League for young British talent. The best ones not only increase clubs’ quota of ‘homegrown’ stars but they also show the steely qualities required to be the catalyst for everything goods that the team does.
One such battle relates to Ross Barkley. It’s a particularly important battle because we believe that the young star will go on t o have a Rooney like influence on the Premier League. Rooney has his critics but few could argue his importance to Manchester United’s serial success over the last decade.
Barkley has similar qualities and whoever does eventually sign him will have a legitimate aspiration of dominating for 5 year or so.
Manchester United are at a particularly critical juncture in their history and they simply must have looked at Barkley. He has been regularly linked to Manchester United and he could surely electrify their midfield – even at the enormous fee expected, he’d be worth every penny.
Many believe that he is the perfect number ten. But his talents are almost wasted up there. Yes he can score goals. But it his ability to run from deep with the ball like Yaya Toure that really sets him apart. Barkley can utterly boss games from the middle with his power, technique and desire. He’s got such an amazing instinct for the game and there is going to be an almighty battle for his signature.
We get excited every time we talk about this lad. He’s just such a joy to watch. Manchester United could deploy Barkley in various positions but we would have to put him in the heart of a 4-4-2 or in front of the defence in the 4-2-3-1 with license to roam while Michael Carrick or Kevin Strootman does the more conventional holding role.
Here’s Barkley in a 4-2-3-1
And playing in a 4-4-2
Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: the best possible signing?
