He hasn’t even started yet. Says Jose Pekerman in his latest staunch defence of his star player. And for a national team that houses Real Madrid sensation James Rodriguez that’s some statement.
But Falcao quite simply is the best when he’s fit and Pekerman has seen the artful devastation that he causes at close quarters. He can flummox the best defences with his touch and pace. He is one of the most inventive and two footed strikers in the game. And he’s ice-cold and ruthless in front of goal.
Falcao’s problem has been that ostensibly niggling injuries have meant that he has failed to get his Manchester United career off the ground.
The 28 year old has looked great when he’s played – a sensational left-footed cross which landed straight on the bonce of RvP at Leicester. The instinctive chip later in that match which came back off the bar. And the first goal at Old Trafford – but Falcao needs full match fitness and momentum.
So far we have seen glimpses of the monster but he’s miles away from his best.
Pekerman, however, is in no doubt what Manchester United have bought and what the will soon see:
He will be one of the best players Manchester United have had and will break a lot of records in England.
The bullishness of the manager has to give you confidence that the player is indeed fully over the knee injury and that it’s only a matter of time before he’s firing again. As far as we are concerned, that really can’t come soon enough.
