During his press conference on Friday Louis van Gaal was asked about his injury list ahead of the Manchester derby. He eventually informed us that Radamel Falcao remains injured with a knock that he got in training.
It seemed strange that no one thought to ask the boss if the injury was to the same knee that kept him Falcao for 9 months earlier this year. It was as if the gathered audience, desperate to see this guy in full flight, was too scared to hear the answer.
Before the Chelsea game Van Gaal said of the injury:
“Falcao took a kick in training on Thursday and couldn’t play because of that,” van Gaal told MUTV. “We’ll have to wait and see, but I don’t think the injury is too bad, today’s match came too soon for him.”
The fact that he’s still unfit a week later and that Manchester United have been quite vague about the nature of the injury in an obvious concern.
We sincerely hope that it’s nothing substantial. Because we said when he signed that Manchester United had a new best player and we still feel the same. If and when the superb striker gets a consistent run in the team he can take the league by storm. He’s worth the entrance fee alone.
But getting him on the pitch has been the problem. And without any clear information from the club the mind is naturally drawn towards that troublesome knee.
We genuinely hope, for the sake of The Premier League and the game of football, that Falcao can regain full fitness imminently. Manchester United could use his brilliance.
