The theory of soccersweep is that most football rumours, however seemingly outlandish, have a semblance of truth or started for a good reason.
But, with Manchester United currently being linked to more strikers, it’s stretching that theory to breaking point. Perhaps Louis van Gaal has a penchant for strikers in the same way as attacking midfielders make Arsene Wenger weak at the knees.
Or perhaps, more likely, Van Gaal is looking beyond his current crop of superstars in their late twenties and at the next generation of Manchester United marksmen.
We have already spoken about the link with Abdul Majeed Waris of Trabzonspor this week. He’s just 23 and The Guardian throws up another youngster who has been linked with United today.
Manchester United are in for a couple of strikers, because they’ve got that habit now. Abdul Majeed Waris of Trabzonspor and Italian hitman Mario Balo … hold on … Mattia Destro are in their sights.
This 23 year old has been a big name in Italy for a few years and has 7 caps in the Italian national team. He’s scored 22 league goals in 49 games for Roma but still isn’t always getting the desired game time and has been linked to The Premier League for some time.
He’s quick and can play in the hole or up top – a clever schemer and excellent finisher.
Quite where Louis might shoehorn Destro into the squad right now is anyone’s guess. But he’s an exciting prospect.
Let’s see some of his mad skillz. Manchester United fans: keen?
