Manchester United linked with top drawer January signings

Despite a massive amount of criticism this season we actually think the Manchester United’s defence is starting to do okay.

There is finally something resembling a settled look about the defence, with the exception of Chris Smalling who has come back into the picture because of an injury to Phil Jones. But they are definitely improving and can count genuine pace amongst their virtues. Each one is speedy which always helps.

But many still believe that Manchester United will invest in a centre back as a priority in the January window.

Mats Hummels would be the ideal choice but seems a little bit out of range. A slight downgrade and compatriot of Hummels, Benedikt Höwedes has been linked in latest reports. Manchester United are said to be monitoring the player closely, according to Bild.

The other part of the Germany international centre back pairing is slightly less mobile and not as technically gifted but every bit as strong and powerful as Hummels.

The same report suggests that Manchester United may go for a long-term Arsenal target Julian Draxler.

We don’t know if there’s any truth in this one but he is certainly a player to get really excited about – he’s going to be a top drawer player in our opinion and has already played 15 times for Germany at the age of 21.

He can play in in midfield or up top and he generally looks to have a similar style to Robin van Persie.

Arsenal may still fancy their chances of signing him but aren’t known for their decisiveness in the market. If Manchester United were to move quickly Draxler could be a wonderful long-term acquisition for the club.

Let’s have a look at Draxler in action. Manchester United fans: does the club need any more forwards?
