It’s turning out to be one of the more pony seasons in Manchester United’s recent history.
The excitement factor is definitely there on match days due to some brilliant new signings. And the quality of football is already far superior to last season.
But it’s those seemingly interminable gaps between matches that make us feel like we are on constant cold turkey. The ridiculous international breaks aren’t helping (there is another of the rotters in November). And, on European nights, the players are in their slippers at home rather than competing against the best.
So this season is all about getting that top four finish. And, despite the injury list, LvG will hope that his methods are that bit closer to sinking into his squad.
West Brom away isn’t easy. Rooney is still suspended and Herrera unlikely to take part. Add to this the tweaked hamstring of Antonio Valencia and an obvious replacement could also be sidelined.
So how will Manchester United set up for this must win encounter? Phil Jones should be back to add some experience to the defence alongside Marcos Rojo. Shaw and Rafael will continue at full back.
Up top it’s RvP and Falcao. And Mata, Blind and Di Maria will take three of the midfield berths. If Valencia does miss the game the right midfield slot will likely go to either, Michael Carrick (perhaps a bit soon for a start), or Darren Fletcher. The best option for us, however, would be Adnan Januzaj but LvG might opt for more security away from home.
