He’s fast, powerful and unerring in front of goal and tabloid reports today state that Manchester United, along with Juventus are ‘readying’ a bid for Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Red Devils are also readying a bid for Shaqiri, 23, who is likely to leave the Bundesliga champions due to lack of first-team football.

He’s a player who is easy to like. Anyone who scores a hat-trick at The World Cup is surely a decent player. Shaqiri has a low centre of gravity and can run at great speed with the ball stuck to him like glue. He’s also a very powerful player who can adapt to several different positions for the team.

He has historically played as a winger but did a great job up top at times for Switzerland in Brazil 2014 and could end up playing as a number ten.

He has been frustrated by a lack of first team football in a ridiculously good Bayern Munchen squad since he joined the club in 2012 for 11.6M Euros. He has appeared on 72 occasions for the German champions, scoring 15 times. But he is still viewed as a peripheral member of the team and, at 23, he perhaps wants more.

There is however one major reason that we believe LvG won’t sign him. The Dutchman always talks about balance in a squad. When he came to Manchester United he described the squad as ‘broken’ with two many number 9s and number 10s.

So we would find it very strange if Louis signed another left-footed creator. He has signed Blind, Rojo, Di Maria, Shaw this summer to add to the other left footed squad members, Blackett, Mata, Anderson and RvP.

If the squad is to be balanced then perhaps right footers will be the order of the day from now on?

For all his talents, it is difficult to see where Shaqiri would fit into this Manchester United team.

Let’s see him in action. United fans: does he boil your potatoes?
