Chelsea have started like a train in The Premier League this season and you can’t help thinking that the team has progressed sharply since last year. They are still letting in too many goals but we can put this down to early season assimilation for now.
In Europe last year Chelsea really lacked potency going forward in the latter stages. They were simply out powered and out played by Atletico Madrid. In that second half at Stamford Bridge we expected them to come out all guns blazing.
But they had no answer to the movement and finishing ability of the Spaniards.
Things should be a lot different this time. Not only have Chelsea brought in a master marksman in the form of Diego Costa. They now also have a top level midfielder to make things happen and give them better control of the midfield in the tightest games. Fabregas and Costa is beginning to look like a match made in heaven.
Chelsea will hope that both are fit enough to play tonight. But while Schalke are no pushovers they may not even need to field Costa for this one. Loic Remy showed real class at the weekend and perhaps Costa can be rested to help that troublesome hamstring.
Mourinho’s Chelsea is famous for the 2-0 and we think that this game has that score line written all over it.
Let’s have a look at the strongest XI for the game – assuming Costa is given a rest. Chelsea fans: agreed?
