History suggest that the team which scores the most goals in The Premier League wins the title more often than not. In the 22 seasons of The EPL the highest goalscorers have won the league on 15 occasions.
So soccersweep has looked at three top three strikers from the top five clubs in The Premier League. We divided the number of goals scored by the number of games played by each of the strikers, to find out their goals to games ratio.
Then we took an average of those three strikers from each club to find the average goal ratio for the trio from those clubs. Heck, it sounds complicated! But it really isn’t. And it may be quite illuminating for Manchester United in particular.
Barring injury Manchester United’s attacking triumvirate of Falcao, Van Persie and Rooney have by far the best average goals to games ratio.
Chelsea and Manchester City are coming second and third, followed by Liverpool and Arsenal, whose average has been brought right down by the poor goal ratio of Danny Welbeck, who was regularly played out wide in his time at Manchester United.
Not many believe that Manchester United can win the league right now but, based on these figures, they could go much closer than people think. Because goals win games and Manchester United look absolutely full of them.
