Transfer Latest: Another Major clue that Angel Di Maria is heading to Manchester United?

Manchester United fans are feeding on morsels of information right now about potential arrivals before the window closes in 13 days.

One of the main men under consideration is of course Angel di Maria and there was another clue given by Real Madrid fans on Tuesday night that the player is on his way out of the club.

When he was brought onto the field of play with 15 minutes remaining in the match against Atletico Madrid he was greeted by the home fans with a standing ovation.

Marca reports:

Ángel Di María, who has been heavily tipped to leave Real Madrid this summer, was greeted with a standing ovation by the Bernabéu crowd when he came on for Luka Modric in the 77th minute of the Spanish Super Cup first leg.

This may of course be viewed as a simple show of support for a player who is very popular at the club and who the fans don’t want to leave.

But, more likely, it was an acceptance of the fact that the player was appearing for last time in the white shirt at The Bernebeu.

Paris St Germain apparently retain an interest in the player, despite having problems with balancing the books. And Bayern Munchen have also reportedly entered the fray as a possible suitor over the last few days.

But you would have to say that Manchester United’s need is greatest. Not only that but they seem desperate to add to their squad and will probably pay the going rate for his services now that the alternatives are so thin on the ground.

The real question is whether the player is prepared to spend at least one year outside The Champions League. Manchester United fans will hope and pray that the player sees this as a long-term project and one with an upward trajectory.

Like it or not we haven’t got a constant production line of brilliant Academy players and our main competitors strengthen with genuine world class quality year upon year. Can you imagine City, Chelsea, Bayern, Real, Barca, PSG allowing a situation to develop where they didn’t tend their squad and let it fall to rack and ruin over a period of many years? It’s like being a multi millionaire, having a fabulous Palace with an illustrious history and doing no maintenance on it then when the inevitable happened and it started to fall down through neglect you got Joe Bloggs in from an advert in the local paper to do a cheap cosmetic tidy up without sorting out the structural damage.
