Manchester United looked sluggish in the engine room against Swansea. Darren Fletcher had a decent preseason but simply lacks the dynamism for the anchor role. He doesn’t have the power to surge forward and take the heat off his defence.
Ander Herrera looked good on Saturday but United are desperately in need of a midfield dynamo to play alongside him.
With the Vidal deal looking on the ropes, Manchester United are reportedly considering signing Kevin Strootman ahead of schedule. It was thought that a bid would go in for the Roma midfielder in January, if he had sufficiently recovered from long term injury.
The Express reports:
it has been suggested that Kevin Strootman remains Louis Van Gaal’s preference and that the Dutch manager could step up his interest before the end of the transfer window.
At 24 Strootman looks like a perfect fit for United. He’s already got good experience with Holland (5 caps, 3 goals) PSV and Roma. He’s excelled wherever he has played and was very unlucky to get injured after just 25 league games for Roma, in which he shone with 5 goals and some commanding performances.
With the player not yet fully recovered it would be a big risk for Manchester United to sign the player. But, it may prove to be a gamble that pays dividends for a team which is in trouble if it doesn’t add another midfielder before September.
Strootman is definitely of the requisite quality and could become part of the furniture at Old Trafford very quickly.
Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: worth the gamble?
