The need for a left-footed defender of real calibre was great. The need for some more pace was equally pressing and in the signing of Marcos Rojo Manchester United have addressed the former and begun to address the latter issue.
The Argentinian international has apparently told radio station Radio Continental that, as was widely expected, he is now a Manchester United player.
‘It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player. Leaving Sporting wasn’t easy.’
At 24 Rojo has 28 caps for Argentina after forcing his way into the side with a superb season in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon.
There is still room for improvement but the player will be seen as a valuable addition and one who fits the bill for Manchester United’s preferred acquisitions – he’s a high calibre international in his mid-twenties who is still on an upward trajectory.
With Rojo on board Louis van Gaal will hope to bring in another defender, a top midfielder and pacey forward before the end of the window.
But this has to be seen as a good start.
Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: good deal?
