Chelsea Transfers: Ideal XI vs Burnley

What a side

The noises coming out of Chelsea suggest that their transfer business is over for the summer. But even the biggest fans of Jose will be taking his comments with a pinch of salt.

From a business perspective he may be attempting to keep market prices low by saying that he doesn’t want any more players.

Either way we think that Chelsea need another striker and, possibly, another centre back.

Diego Costa continues to impress in pre-season but we think that if Chelsea are to really kick on this season they need another centre forward in his prime. Falcao looks destined for Real Madrid. But Edinson Cavani would be a fine addition.

At the back Chelsea aren’t exactly threadbare. But the central defence has a high average age. John Terry will play another season at the top but he could with a really mobile and pacey player around him. While Cahill and Ivanovic are decent partners we would love to see Raphael Varane inject some more zest into that back line – a master and pupil combo that could work seamlessly.

So, injury and transfer permitting, this is our take on the ideal starting eleven for the season opener. Let’s have your thoughts.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Courtois, Azpilicueta, Terry, Varane, Luis – Fabregas, Matic – Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle – Cavani
