Despite telling the press that there will be no more arrivals this summer, it will come as no surprise that Chelsea are still being linked with high profile players. Reports in both The Metro and ESPN suggest that striker Edison Cavani could be on The Blue’s radar.
The club would have to spend around £40 million to land the forward if they were to push for a deal. But this shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Following the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Everton the club have freed up additional funds.
PSG may well be willing to do a deal. They have already been punished by UEFA for breaking Financial Fair Play rules. This means that they will have to sell if they want to bring in further players or fall foul of the rules once again.
With the French side being linked with Angel Di Maria of Real Madrid, they might just have to offload Cavani before the can negotiate for the winger.
While the player has publically said recently that he has no plans to leave PSG, where he is apparently happy, ESPN believes that he is still keen on a move to Stamford Bridge. This may well be a ploy by Cavani to not anger the club or its fans ahead of a potential move. ESPN says:
Chelsea are weighing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, sources have told ESPN FC.
The 40 million pound fee (50.4m Euros) believed to have been quoted to Chelsea would be 15 million pounds lower than the 55 million pounds he went to the French champions for last summer
Since joining PSG in 2013, the player has had a largely disappointing time. Despite scoring 16 goals in 30 league appearances, his performances have been below the standard he set playing for Napoli. At the Italian side he was prolific in front of goal where he netted 104 times and 138 appearances in all competitions.
His explosiveness in front of goal allows him to use his pace to quickly go past defenders. His goal scoring record also demonstrates his clinical finishing. Both are qualities that were missing from Chelsea last season in their front line, making Cavani an ideal target for them. Nathan Gibson
Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: what chance signing Cavani?
