Manchester United’s Next No.11?
It’s hard to exaggerate the challenge that the next Manchester United number 11 will have. Stepping into the shoes of a player with a genuine, maybe even overwhelming, case to be considered the greatest Manchester United player of all time. There isn’t anyone even close to him as the greatest Premier League player ever. Is there?
Ryan Giggs was, and always will be, a true Manchester United legend.
But having stated that he doesn’t want the number 11 shirt to be retired, Manchester United have the major challenge of filling it with someone who can genuinely aspire to similar levels, if not for the same period.
Here are some of the more likely options:
Marco Reus – Now this would be a genuninely exciting signing for the club. Reus is an A-list talent who would imrove Manchester United immediately. He’s two-footed and makes things happen. With Manchester United probably not looking to employ a conventional left winger this season Reus is the sort of player who could adapt to several systems. Top talent.
Adnan Januzaj – Any football lover who has seen this kid can’t fail to be excited. We imagine that LvG will also be enthused when the kid gets back from his World Cup break. perhaps he will entrust Januzaj with the jersey. He’s a mercurial talent who will hopefully be at the club for over a decade.
Memphis Depay – A really exciting winger/forward who has caught the eye and whetted the appetite of soccersweep. He’s got the feet and explosive power and pace to be a world star. Manchester United should pull out all the stops to sign this guy.
Angel Di Maria – Readers of soccersweep know he’s not one of our favourite players. Many Manchester United fans feel that this guy coud be the next left footed wing wizard at Old Trafford.
We think he will prove to be worse value for money for PSG than David Luiz. Di Maria’s mooted transfer fee is ludicrous.
