Everton have had a fairly quiet time of it in the transfer market so far this summer. It seems as if this is the evaluation period before things really hot up in August.
The other factor in Everton’s transfer business this summer is seemingly the decision about whether Romelu Lukaku will make a permanent transfer to the club. That appears to be the main concern at the moment and once that one is sorted out Everton can plan ahead.
As well as needing a new striker or two there have been persistent rumours that Everton will go for a midfielder this summer. We think that they are already pretty well covered with James McCarthy, Gareth Barry, Darron Gibson, Leon Osman and Ross Barkley, who can play pretty much anywhere.
But Roberto Martinez has been linked with a few midfield forays. The latest, according to reports, is Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi.
The Express reports:
The 21-year-old Nigerian has impressed at Lazio since joining in 2011 and could be set for a move away from Serie A this summer.
Reports in Italy suggest that the Premier League trio are all keeping tabs on Onazi’s situation and could make a move before the end of the current window.
The 21 year old has already played 51 times in the league at the top level for Lazio, since joining the club in 2012. He’s also turned out a remarkable 21 times for Nigeria scoring one goal.
He played all four games for Nigeria at The World Cup and looks like exactly the reason that Roberto Martinez went on his scouting trip to Brazil. This guy looks an affordable gem. He’s a proper player.
Let’s see the lad in action. Everton fans: exciting potential addition?
