Manchester United: Rumours of megadeal grow as superstar isn’t where he is supposed to be – report

Cavani scores for fun wherever he plays. Despite starting well in France, there are rumours that he too could be heading for England, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly among his suiters

Sign him up!

We had assumed that this one was nothing more than the same sort of speculation which links Manchester United to Cristiano Ronaldo every summer – in other words, romantic but fanciful hype.

And it still could be. But we are now getting real evidence as to the mind state of a player who has been linked to Manchester United for a very long time.

If reports are to be believed then Edinson Cavani has failed to turn up for pre-season training as he continues to agitate for a move to The Premier League. The Express reports today:

EDINSON CAVANI has failed to turn up for pre-season training at Paris Saint-Germain fuelling speculation that he is set to leave the club with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool and Manchester United chasing his signature.

Firstly, we believe that when players this good become available you have to have a serious look. We also believe that it’s important to refresh your forward line each season regardless of how good you have been in the last 12 months. Goals mean prizes and teams get worked out when they don’t keep evolving.

But Cavani is a finisher. That’s what he does. Manchester United have two great ones already.

That said, we would be sorelytempted to buy him anyway and put him alongside RvP in a 3-5-2 with the brilliant creative talents of Wazza at the head of the 5 in midfield – a sort of number 10, but with two up top, if you like.

But we could definitely see Chelsea also sneaking in and grabbing him before anyone knows what’s hit them. The Blues are very canny in the transfer market and Chelsea arguably need more firepower.

Let’s see some of his best goals. Manchester United fans: where would Cavani fit into the team?
