Now that LvG has departed The World Cup with reputation further enhanced Manchester United fans’ patience should be rewarded.
Because, although the signings of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are certainly nothing to sniff at, you do get the sense that these deals were in the pipeline before he took over as the manager of Manchester United.
Of course they wouldn’t have been signed had they not got the blessing from the new Manchester United manager. But they were probably suggested to him on his arrival at the club.
Now that his engagements with the Holland national team are coming to end things should get really exciting at Manchester United. We should start to get a picture in the next week to 10 days about who Louis wants to bring to the club this summer.
One name that has been floating about over the last few months is the wonderful PSG striker Edinson Cavani. He’s had a great season in France but rumours persist that, although he is only one year into his lucrative new contract, he may move on this summer.
And The Daily Express goes as far on Friday as to suggest that there are talks planned between Manchester United and PSG over a possible move.
The Express says:
MANCHESTER UNITED are set to hold talks with Paris Saint-Germain in the next few days over a possible move for Edinson Cavani.
…reports in France suggest that United will look to re-engage the French club in the near future.
Indeed, United had hoped to hold talks over a move already only to see the meeting pushed back a few days.
Cavani remains a top priority for Louis Van Gaal and United are willing to do everything in their power to persuade PSG to sell.
Cavani, who joined PSG fro a reported £55m last summer, had a rather muted World Cup but was asked to play in several different positions and take one for the good of the team during the tournament.
But none of his attacking instincts have been blunted and, at 27 years of age, he is in his absolute prime. With 179 goals in 328 career games Cavani is an explosive footballer with great pace and a wonderful finish from any angle. He is truly top drawer talent.
He obviously wouldn’t come cheap but we think that he would be worth every penny and make Manchester United truly frightening
again next season.
Let’s see some highlights. Manchester United fans: a priority?
