Chelsea are reportedly the new favourites to sign midfielder Toni Kroos after it became known that they have made a huge contract offer.
The London club are willing to shell out £125,000 a week to get the 24 year old to agree to personal terms on top of a £15 million transfer fee according to The Metro.
Chelsea offer Toni Kroos £125,000-a-week to complete transfer to Stamford Bridge
Mourinho has already shown real intention during the summer. He has orchestrated the signing of midfielder Cesc Fabregas and is seemingly near to finalising a move for star striker Diego Costa.
The Belgian coach Marc Wilmots has also said that Thibaut Courtois will be returning to Stamford Bridge after spending three years on loan at Atletico Madrid.
German international Kroos has been subject to transfer speculation all summer. After talks apparently stalled between him and Bayern Munich over a new deal it seems like every big club in Europe is interested in acquiring his services.
Manchester United were early favourites to secure his signature after it emerged that the player had spoken to new manager Louis van Gaal about a move. Reports from The Independent even indicated that they were prepared to offer him a wage of £4 million a year.
However, that wage is dwarfed by the one reportedly offered by Chelsea that would come in at around £6.5 million a year. Chelsea could well face further competition to land the star though as reports have linked him with both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Both of those European giants would likely be able to offer similar wages and the chance to play for the current Champions League holders or a new look Barcelona side might sway Kroos to choose to move to Spain.
Any deal is likely going to have to wait until after the World Cup in Brazil. Germany are set to progress into the knockout stages when they play today.
