Chelsea: ‘In the summer you will understand’ – is this why Jose was so calm about not signing strikers?

In the January transfer window Jose Mourinho was asked about we he hadn’t signed a striker when Chelsea so obviously needed to reinforce that area of the park.

The Chelsea boss was calm and collected and said something which has stuck in our heads ever since:

For many people, you and our fans, people don’t understand why we didn’t do anything. But in the summer you will understand why we didn’t do anything.”

He may well have been referring to the incoming striker Diego Costa. But the Chelsea boss spoke with such confidence that you feel an even bigger name was in his reckoning.

Latest Reports suggest that that name could well be Radamel Falcao of Monaco.

Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao has put the Premier League on red alert as he looks to quit Monaco this summer. Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are likely to be sounded out about the 28-year-old.

Having just missed out on The World Cup through injury Falcao will be looking to improve his fitness over the summer – he should be fully fit come August – and there have been constant rumours about him leaving Monaco, even though he’s only been there for a year.

Chelsea fans would surely be very excited about the prospect of signing this lad. He’s got a fantastic goalscoring record having netted 199 times in his 302 career club games and we think that he could really prove to be the difference for a Chelsea side looking for their first league title in five years.

Chelsea have been typically decisive in the market this summer so we should expect them to move quickly for Falcao if they want him.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: is this a realistic target?
