It appears that Tottenham are looking for a left back this summer as they have been linked to a few over the last couple of months.
Benoît Assou-Ekotto, Tottenham’s mainstay over the last 6 years, is one of the worst Premier League full backs that we have ever seen and he will surely be on his way after a loan spell at QPR last season. So the club really needs to sign a top quality player if they are going to push for Champions League qualification next season.
Recent reports suggest that Real Madrid left back Marcelo could be of interest to Tottenham this summer.
Marcelo is of course a seasoned international with fantastic quality and dynamism. Somehow he’s still only 26 years of age, despite having played for Real Madrid for 7 years.
So, while he surely wouldn’t be cheap to sign, he has years left in the tank.
The Telegraph reports:
• Strong rumour: Liverpool and Tottenham are on course to engage in a summer battle for Real Madrid left-back Marcelo. (Daily Star)
Even if Marcelo gives Tottenham two or three quality years he can springboard the club into the top four. This in turn, will generate bigger budgets and better long-term signings.
If he were to come Tottenham it may be worth considering that he probably wouldn’t get a proper pre-season under his belt after appearing for Brazil at the World Cup. His team are expected to go close to winning the tournament which will mean that he would be unlikely to meet up with his new team mates until a couple of weeks before the new season.
Let’s take a look at the flyer in action. Tottenham fans: interested?

Yes we’re interested, I doubt Levy is though.
