Everton fans will very much enjoyed watching some of their star players performing brilliantly at The World Cup so far – even if Leighton Baines didn’t turn up and Ross Barkley was criminally underused by Roy Bodge-job-son.
But another of the standout performers of the tournament so far could end up at Everton come autumn.
The Guardian reports today that Everton my be keen on Iran wimger Ashkan Dejagah, who caused Argentina so much aggro at the weekend.
Somebody who didn’t score over the weekend, but nevertheless impressed in failing to do so against a far superior opposition, is Ashkan Dejagah. The Iranian shone against Argentina on Saturday and nearly gave his nation a shock lead with a diving header. The 27-year-old is set to play in the Championship next season after being relegated with Fulham but after playing in Brazil he has decided that might not be for the best, with Everton reportedly keen.
Dejagah was one of the bright spots in an otherwise dreadful campaign for Fulham last season and is surely a Premier League quality player. We would be very surprised if he did stay on in West London beyond this summer.
Having played in Germany for most of his career, and even turning out for the German national side at every youth level, Dejagah moved to Fulham in 2012 and has been a consistent performer. At 27 he’s in his pomp and we could definitely see him fitting seamlessly into Roberto Martinez squad at Everton.
Everton clearly need creative and attacking players having lost Gerard Deulofeu and, potentially, Romelu Lukaku. Dejagah won’t be the first or last winger to be linked to Everton but he may turn out to be an absolute bargain.
Let’s see some highlights. Everton fans: decent addition?
