The Metro reported over the weekend that Manchester United may turn their attention from Luke Shaw to the brilliant Daley Blind this summer.

With Manchester United and Southampton seemingly dragging their heels over the Shaw deal Manchester United fans saw a fantastic performance from the Dutch international against Spain last Friday.

He caused no end of damage down Spain’s right all night, provided two assists and generally demonstrated what a wonderful left peg he has.

He also has a great engine and got up and down the wing effortlessly all night – even in the heat of Brazil. At the age of 24 Bind looks as if he’s got a great career ahead of him.

But with Manchester United losing a lot of quality on the left side over the last few years we don’t think it’s a case of Blind OR Shaw. Manchester United should certainly try to buy both of them as they could clearly both double up as wingers too.

They are both marauding, athletic and adventurous defenders and either could end up as celebrated forwards by the end of their careers because they both have the skill and technique to play further forward.

Manchester United need some conventional left footed players for that flank and we think that these two could form a superb partnership, dovetailing down the wings.

So even if Manchester United do decide to go for Blind this summer we don’t think that it will stop them from buying Luke Shaw.

Let’s take a look at Blind in action. Manchester United fans: keen?
