Chelsea and Manchester City are said to be battling it out to sign Napoli winger Jose Callejon. The 27 year old only joined the Italian side last season but could now be available for a price of £24 million according to The Daily Star.
Callejon has impressed in his time in Serie A, scoring 15 leagues goals in only 37 appearances. His excellent season also saw him net five times in other competitions and has seen him become one of the most important players for Napoli.
The Spanish star joined the Italian giants from Real Madrid in 2013. Having spent his entire youth career at the Madrid club he moved to Espanyol in 2008 where he made 97 league appearances before moving back to Real Madrid in 2011.
He spent two seasons at Los Blancos but saw his playing time limited mostly to substitute appearances.
A Chelsea deal for Callejon would be highly beneficial for the Stamford Bridge outfit. As well as his ability to score goals, he is also capable of playing in midfield, on the wing and as a forward, meaning he could provide plenty of cover in a variety of positions.
If Chelsea do agree a transfer deal with Napoli it would be left to the player to decide his future. Having previously played under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid he might be tempted to link back up with his former manager.
Napoli face the prospect of losing two of their star players as, according to the same source, fellow midfielder Lorenzo Insigne has also been linked with a move away from Italy to a number of Premier League clubs.
