Everton: The most important signing of the summer

A must buy

Everton look likely to do quite a bit of business this summer as Roberto Martinez looks to further shape his squad after one season in charge.

soccersweep thinks that if he only make one signing all window then he has got to go all out for Romelu Lukaku. And the potentially good news today is that talks have apparently begun between Everton and Chelsea for his signature. The Daily Mail reports:

Everton have opened talks with Chelsea over another deal for Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian has been offered to Atletico Madrid and has around six other clubs interested.

Lukaku, 21, is with the Belgium World Cup squad who have been tipped to be the tournament’s dark horses.

It’s not only about finding a good striker but also finding a striker who fits Everton’s team well and gels with those around him.

And Everton fans have already seen overwhelming evidence that Lukaku is a great player for the team and the system.

With 16 goals last season he did the business straight away but has still got his entire career ahead of him. Even if he does make a move to another club in a few years time then Everton will benefit hugely from his continued service right now.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez will want to get this one done quickly. Because it will dictate to the rest of his transfer business for the summer. And if the Belgian has a good World Cup the chances of getting him may recede.

So think that even if Everton don’t sign anyone else this summer then the permanent capture of Lukaku would represent a decent window of transfer activity.

Everton fans are we all agreed on this one?

    More piffle.
Lukaku is not in discussion yet as RM declared because we cannot afford him and this will not change unless he has a very poor world cup. Any upbeat performance will raise his stakes higher and his signing far less likely.
