There will of course be many dubious Tottenham transfer tales over the summer. And this might just be one of them – bit it’s interesting enough to report on.
The Guardian passes on the information that the rumour mills have suggested Tottenham may make a move for England right-back Glen Johnson this summer.
He’s being a virtual ever-present for Liverpool over the last five years, after signing for £18m in 2009, and offers just as much going forward as he does in defence – possibly even more.
But surely Tottenham have a carbon copy of Johnson already at the club in the shape of Kyle Walker. Another England full-back, who is a fair bit younger than his peer, Walker may not be quite as accomplished as Johnson but is faster and more dynamic.
It’s fair to say that Tottenham could do with strengthening that area of the team – two top players in every position in the side is commonly regarded as the ideal situation – but we can’t see Tottenham making a serious bid for Johnson this summer, especially if he’s going to cost a decent wedge (he has year left on his contract) and command a big salary.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action anyway. Tottenham fans: is this one going to get off the ground?

Tripe!!! Ask a few Liverpool supporters about Johnson – the man who gets upfield and jogs back, the man who crowds out his own winger, the man who passes with regularity to the opposition. Don’t we want somebody who can defend???????

Pointless. Spurs need to bring a young understudy for competition / backup, not an older, slower, fatter, not as good version of what we have already.
We wanted Glen when he was moving from Chelsea to Portsmouth but they wouldn’t deal with us. That ship has now sailed.

Walker is a much better player than Johnson, rb is one of the strongest areas for spurs with Naughton an able deputy (at rb he is terrible at lb)
