Have Real Madrid cleared the way for massive Chelsea bid?

Two supreme talents

We recently reported on Real Madrid’s potential interest in the brilliant young Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba. Chelsea have also been linked, by very highly regarded sources, with the playmaker of late and test reports suggest that the path to a possible transfer is becoming more open. Marca reports:

Real Madrid won’t be getting involved in the bidding war for Juventus duo Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal, who have attracted admiring glances from several European giants, according to Ernesto Bronzetti, Florentino Pérez’s trusted agent in Italy.

Bronzetti told ‘Tuttosport’ that Real Madrid “aren’t interested in Pogba or Vidal”, despite the rumours linking the pair with ‘Los Blancos’. Coach Carlo Ancelotti is known to be a particularly big fan of box-to-box midfielder Vidal and Juventus’s sporting director, Giuseppe Marotta, previously acknowledged that Real had “shown interest” in the Chilean, “but haven’t submitted any firm offers”.

Chelsea will probably prioritise strikers this summer. With the Diego Costa deal almost complete according to reports they may well buy one more forward to bolster their ailing frontline.

But you feel that there also might be a midfielder coming into the club in the close season at Chelsea. Cesc Fabregas has been strongly linked over the last few days. But Paul Pogba has also been mentioned as a possible Chelsea target and it appears that, if they do want to make a move for the player, then the path has been cleared with the news of Real’s potential cooling.

We think that Fabregas is a fantastic footballer who would improve almost any team in the world. He is perhaps a lower-risk tried and tested solution for Chelsea this summer. But the potential of Pogba is almost limitless.

At 21 years of age he has taken the Italian league by storm and looks as if he is improving almost weekly.

Pogba is the sort of player that can win matches in tight situations. The sort of player that Chelsea sorely needed in the second half of that semi final of The Champions League.

He wouldn’t be cheap and would probably cost more than the Spaniard. But, at such a young age, he would also have a big sell-on value which would offset the initial fee.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans – Fab or Pog?
