Jose Mourinho made it clear that he would be looking for forwards a priority this summer. There has been speculation in recent days that a midfielder such as Cesc Fagregas may also be on the wanted list.
But with the Chelsea strikers so obviously lacking potency up front they may well indulge in a complete overhaul of their forwards in the summer. Eto’o is of course already gone and few would be bowled over if Torres and Demba Ba followed suit imminently.
But those departures are dependent on Chelsea bringing more players in and, as we know, top strikers are amongst the hardest players to find and sign.
Chelsea look to have all but done a deal for Diego Costa as the player passed his medical at Stamford Bridge today but we don’t think that they will stop there. One player who is easily of the calibre required is Bayern Munchen forward Mario Mandzukic.
With Munchen signing Robert Lewandawski and also counting Thomas Muller amongst their number Mandzukic may well find the exit door open this summer, if he decides to move. He has been regularly linked with Chelsea.
Mandzukic is an accomplished goal machine. He’s scored 159 in 347 club games including 48 in 88 since he joined Bayern Munchen in 2012. So his goalscoring ratio has actually improved with age. At 28 he’s a seasoned international with 49 caps and 13 goals for Croatia.
Chelsea has been something of a strikers graveyard for players like Torres and Shevchenko in the recent past. But, along with Costa, this guy would almost guarantee Chelsea an abundance of goals next season.
Lets’ see him in action. Chelsea fans: the perfect addition to Costa?
