Manchester United: The oddest of midfield solutions
When you look at the Manchester United squad you can see lots of room for improvement over the summer.
If reports are to be believed then Louis van Gaal is already making his voice heard in terms of summer transfer targets.
Toni Kroos and Cesc Fabregas have seemingly been crossed off the list of potential arrivals and the Dutchman may instead turn to the Holland national team for reinforcements.
With the midfield in most urgent need of additions one of the oddest solutions yet has been mooted. The Guardian says:
Van Gaal is also thinking about bringing back Anderson from Fiorentina!
There is a suggestion that Anderson may be given a fresh start at Manchester United after failing to impress in Italy. The Brazilian has made just 6 appearances for Fiorentina since his move in January.
Anderson looked like a great youngster but after he made the big money move to Manchester United he never quite lived up to expectations.
Watching his early Youtube clips he looked like the next Pele. But, for long periods at Manchester United, he looked like he couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo.
Fergie looked as if he might turn the player into a decent holding midfielder at one stage but Anderson never quite grasped the nettle. To play that position you need to be exceedingly athletic and questions were often raised about the overall fitness and conditioning of the player.
So, while Van Gaal may decide to try the player out again, it’s surely more likely that Manchester United will attempt to cut their considerable losses on Anderson this summer.
A return to Portugal, where Anderson starred for Porto, could be on the cards if they can afford his wages.
Manchester United fans: Would you like to Anderson back at the club?
