Over the last week the media has been abuzz with talk of summer arrivals at Manchester United – not just a new manager but players too – lots of them.
But there has to be a limit to the amount of players that will be signed this summer. Realistically, Manchester United will initially need a new left back, two central midfielders, a wide man and potentially a striker to bolster the ranks.
Even if you subscribe to the idea that Manchester United needs a complete overhaul then the 5 major additions detailed above will surely have to do for now. This would represent pretty good going for one window.
There are strong suggestions that 4 of those players have already been seriously targeted. There is some debate about the fifth but The Daily Mail reported last week that Manchester United want Adam Lallana of Southampton. He or Reus could come in as the wider addition. So could this be Manchester United’s entire shopping list for the summer?
Shaw – Show me a left-back in Europe who is far better than Shaw and Manchester United will probably show you a blank cheque. Shaw is, quite simply, the mut’s nuts – it’s scarcely believable that he’s only 18.
Lallana – Mooted as another top target for Manchester United. We can’t see it personally. He’s a lovely footballer and good out wide or in the hole. But Manchester United already have several playmakers who can float around behind the number 9. What they need is proper wide men with blistering pace. Pace and power is what Manchester United need. Give me Lucas Moura or Andros Townsend for £25m. Don’t give me Lallana.
Cavani – Booom! Pace and power. Case closed. Get him in.
Fabregas – We think Fabregas would be sensational at Manchester United in the creative midfield. He just plays the game with such majesty and class.
Kroos – He’s a very good player but Manchester United will struggle to prise him from Germany.
Reus – quicker than Lallana – of the two we would take the Dortmund player in a shot.
